Trips

Here are a few of our favorite trips from our last few seasons

Monadnock Hike

Each year on peak foliage weekend, the Outing Club packs onto buses and hikes 3,165 vertical feet to the summit of Mount Monadnock. As the second most hiked mountain in the world, Monadnock is on many bucket lists, and the view during foliage season is definitely worth the hike. This trip is free to outing club members and is always one of the most packed trips of the year. With all levels of hiker accounted for, there’s always a group to head up the mountain with and if you care to haul a camera up, the photos are legendary.

CRG Hadley

Trips to Central Rock Gym Hadley have always been highlights of the outing club’s season, with a solid group ranging from complete beginners to advanced climbers, there is always something new to learn and do. These trips happen semi regularly and usually around 20-25 people attend. Trips to Hadley are always either free, or cost under $10 depending on the time of year.

Whitewater Rafting

Now a semesterly outing club tradition, whitewater rafting with Crabapple Whitewater on the Deerfield river in Charlemont Mass is always a blast. These are larger trips where we take 25-45 students on a whitewater adventure. Class II, III and IV rapids make these adventures wild. We will continue to make the trip down to crabapple, so join on OwlNet so you are notified when new sign ups are available!

Stone Arch Bridge

From Mountain Project-

“Built in 1847 This bridge is made up of thousands of quality granite blocks perfectly positioned without mortar. The original purpose of this structure was to span the Branch River and expand the Cheshire Railroad. Now it is just a historically relic with the bonus of a few good climbing routes. Routes are almost always top roped from mason bolts but trad is possible. The bridge is only about 45’ tall but most of the routes are sustained face climbs with few rests. The best climbs are on the north west side, the first section on the right as you approach”

The Outing club used to make regular trips to the bridge and is hoping to return to the bridge this year.
